The process of setting the HD-386 up for the first time, and the process of using the scales are separate processes.

To set up the scale for the first time (you can recreate this step by removing and reinserting the batteries, it resets the scales):

1. Insert batteries, and turn the main switch ON.

2. Place the scale on a hard, stable surface (like the floor, but not on carpet).

3. Step onto the scales, and step off when you hear a short “beep” sound. After “8888” is shown in the display and a short “beep” sound is heard, “0.0kg” is shown in the display, and the settings are complete. “0.0kg” is displayed for

approximately 20 seconds, after which the power switches off automatically. (So let it switch off, then the setting process is done.)

To use it from now on to weigh yourself (or something else heavier than 8kg):

1. Step onto the scales. A short “beep” sound is heard, the power switches on automatically, and the scales start measuring.

2. When the measurement is complete, a short “beep-beep” sound is heard, and the measured value flashes for approximately 20 seconds in the display. (After approximately 20 seconds, the power switches off automatically.)

To use it for weighing something that weight less than 8kg:

1. Apply more than 8kg of weight to the scales. A “beep” sound is heard, and the power switches ON.

2. Now remove the weight from the scales, and wait until “0.0kg” is shown in the display. Now place the object that you want to measure onto the scales.

3. When the measurement is complete, a short “beep-beep” sound is heard, and the measured value flashes for approximately 20 seconds in the display. (After approximately 20 seconds, the power switches off automatically.)
